You may find that actually if you are drawn to Rome once you get the game the other factions seem more interesting to play as, theres plenty to offer beyond Sparta and Rome especially as I imagine CA have really fleshed out the other factions making them all unique experiences. The more "Roman" it became the more it fell apart. Anyone who lost their shield in battle was dishonoured: while cuirass. Conditioned from the age of seven for a life on campaign, and dedicated to full-time military training, the Spartans were exceptionally well drilled and masters of their weaponry and equipment.

They managed to absorb what was around them through crafty means and build a Roman empire of greek thought, carthaginian sailing and egyptian grains. These men know nothing but war, and are rightly feared by all. Rome did have the mighty empire and the mad emperors but really they started out as just another greek style colony that developed its own culture later seperating into their own culture. Beleive it or not they were one of the richest greek states for a long time. Realistically they shouldnt have the drawback of natural resources or diplomacy any more than any one else. Historically Sparta I would say is more interesting and longer than the history of rome purely because its so different. What are your priorities? you may even decide there are other more interesting factions.
